Lying
halfway between Split and Dubrovnik
in the Neretva River Valley are the
Bacina Lakes, (more: www.bacina.com
) a natural phenomenon of the Dalmatian
landscape. The Neretva Valley is also
well known for its fruit and vegetable
production, rich natural heritage
and bountiful nature, or if you have
a wish for some sightseeing, within
an hour’s drive, you can visit Dubrovnik,
Mostar, Medugorje, or Gabela (ancient
Troy). The annual “Pirate Ships Marathon”
takes place in August and is the largest
festivity in Dalmatia with over 100
athletes participating and hosts more
than 50,000 visitors. The Neretva
Valley is an area with an abundance
of fish, wild game and vegetables,
and thus, a gourmand’s paradise where
one can find delicious, but inexpensive
food (quite the opposite of Dubrovnik
which is nice to see, but not to stay
too long there). When you take into
account all the activities that are
free at Bacina Lakes, such as beach
volleyball or volleyball on a grass
court, saltwater and lake water swimming,
surfing, rowing, boating in a Pirate
ship, horseback riding, cycling or
a leisurely walk through unique natural
scenery, it must be considered a prime
location for a vacation.
In their tourist offer, the family
Galic has 2 luxury apartments (two-bed
and five-bed) equipped with air
conditioner and TV. Every apartment
has a balcony with view on the lake.
The lake is just 30 m from your
front step where at the beach you
can enjoy a rest in the shade of
an old willow tree or you can find
private courts for bowling and beach
volleyball, on which amateur tournaments
take place. If you are interested
in trying Neretva specialties; fish
stew (brodetto), roasted meals under
the “bell”, grilled fish, or barbecued
lamb, you can arrange it with the
owner, or you can try to prepare
same by yourself.
