TROGIR
The ancinet town of Trogir was built
on an islet very close to the mainland
and to the island of Ciovo.It is
linked to the mainland by a bridge
across narrow channel and by one
another bridge to the island Ciovo.The
main atraction is the heart on the
islet which has-more than any other
town on the eastern coast of the
Adriatic - managed to preserve its
Medieval features with Romanesque,Gothic
and fortifiations.The intricate
web of winding small streets and
piazzas with shops,caffe-bars,pubs
and restaurants with life continually
pulsing trough them is somthing
worth experiencing.
In the original settlement Tragurion
dating from the 3 rd century BC,the
Greeks from the Syracusae colony
Issa founded their trading port.The
old town is full with cultural-historical
monuments.The most important architectural
monument is the cathedral St. Laurence
(Lovro),built during the period
of the 13-15 th centuries.
